Reading glasses here, there and everywhere…

Changes happen in the body as we mature. Yes, let’s say “mature” instead of “grow older”.  Our eyesight changes and perhaps we need reading glasses. Yes, that is me. I have worn reading glasses for years. I have even shared my need for glasses in a previous post.

When I was a young woman in my 30’s, I had a friend who always wore her reading glasses hanging around her neck with the cutest ribbon, string or something special to hold the glasses until she needed them.

I vowed never to be that lady. I would never wear glasses hanging from my neck, causing me to look “older”.

Well… amazing how time changes and the need to read overrides the need for looking cute. Around age 55, I purchased two of those colorful strings and attached them to my reading glasses. I am a happy lady because now I don’t have to constantly say, “Where are my glasses?” Wearing them to the grocery store is fine with me. If they help me read the labels on the grocery items, then the fashion statement doesn’t matter.

Of course, at home I keep a pair of glasses upstairs and a pair downstairs. My only problem now is there are times when I forget I am wearing the glasses and walk downstairs or upstairs saying, “Where are my glasses?”, only to find I have two pairs of reading glasses hanging from my neck. 🙂 Yes, laugh out loud because this is me.

If you see me and two pairs of glasses are hanging from my neck, don’t worry. I truly meant to do that. NOT! 🙂 Please advise me of my mistake so I won’t feel silly. Honesty is appreciated.

Life continues to be busy here in South Carolina. Good thing I have reading glasses so I can keep up on current events. 🙂

I often say God gives us lots of things to laugh about and this Thanksgiving, I am thanking Him once again for laughter. What about you? What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Reading,
Mimi

  1. I can relate to this, Mimi. Even though I have prescription bifocals, I have reading glasses all over the house. They’re at the dining room table, where we work our puzzles. They’re also found on my two writing desks and in the bonus room where we watch TV. And of course, in the bathroom, so I don’t poke myself in the eye when applying mascara. 🙂
I’m thankful for good health and my family. Wishing you and yours a blessed Thanksgiving. xo

  2. Ah yes, Melissa, I too wear my reading glasses hanging from my neck at the ready for when I need them.
I am thankful for the many blessings God continuously bestows upon me, my family and dear friends.
You and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving.
    Blessings, Tina

  3. Melissa, a lot of people can relate to this glasses situation. I laughed when you said you forgot and put two pair around your neck. I have a problem with losing things. I’m a bit OCD and put things back right away so next time I can find them. Only thing, I forget where I replaced them.

  4. My glasses have a purpose, so my computer glasses sit by my computer; My reading glasses are next to the couch where I read. Luckily I can read labels in the store just by lifting my glasses up so I can read without the glasses, as my regular glasses are for distance (walking & driving). I don’t have to hang glasses on my neck, but I wear some pair of glasses all the time when I am awake. I sleep with a nice soft eye mask, so my eyes get rested. I don’t feel old because of so many glasses, because I get compliments on my glasses all the time! Just make them stylish or colorful and you won’t look old to anyone. It is better than not seeing!

  5. My eyes are starting to play tricks on me, but I have to wear glasses all the time so sometimes I put on my husband’s reading glasses just to tweak the prescription. Changing vision can be frustrating. I have a friend who loses her glasses when they are on her head too. LOL I enjoyed your blog. 🙂

  6. Melissa, I’m thankful for reading glasses–so thankful. I’m also thankful for books and blogs because I not only enjoy them, I learn a lot too. I think it’s time for me to find one of those bright strings for my glasses. Thanks for the reminder. 🙂
    Blessings ~ Wendy
