A blueberry giggle….

Some days the Lord gives me the silliest experiences. He knows how much I love to laugh, and He sends me plenty of reasons to laugh out loud.

Yesterday, after purchasing blueberries, bringing them home, rinsing them under cool water and preparing to pat dry them with a paper towel, I decided to taste one or two of the delicious fruit. The sweet taste of a good plump blueberry was more than I could resist.

Ahh…. picking up a couple of berries and preparing to pop them in my mouth, all of a sudden, one of those cute little blueberries jumped right out of my hand and went flying through the air. OH, NO!!! Where did it go?

“Nobody move!” I shouted as I stood spread eagle in a secret agent position (or what I think that might look like) by the kitchen counter. There was just my hubby and me in the house and he wasn’t even in the kitchen. I wonder who was listening to my bold orders.   Knowing that if my feet moved, I might actually step on the blueberry and squish it, making the bottom of my shoes blue and possibly staining the floor.

Oh, the dilemma. Whatever shall happen? Where did that little berry land? Our kitchen is small so it could not have traveled far.

Slowly, inch by inch, I crept and ALL OF A SUDDEN….

The lonely blueberry fell out of the vest I was wearing over my turtleneck sweater. Evidently it had traveled a path down inside my vest and when I stood straight up, the berry escaped.

Crisis averted. No stain on the shoes, floor, or my shirt. I am a happy lady.

Thank you Lord, for giving me the giggles every day. Have you laughed today?

Blessings, giggles and love,
Mimi

Scout Flakes

Have you ever heard how hummingbirds send a few “scouts” to investigate where the good food is located, before all the other hummingbirds arrive?

Yesterday evening,  we prepared for the huge snow “event” to arrive in Virginia. Dinner at a local eatery was on the schedule to celebrate my sister’s birthday. Everything should work out fine, as the snow wasn’t scheduled to arrive until midnight.

Yet, backing the car out of the garage and venturing onto the main road , we noticed a few snowflakes dancing in front of the headlights. What? How can this be? The time is only 5:00pm, not even close to midnight.

Hubby announced in a bold voice, as if to scare away anymore snowflakes, “Those are Scout Flakes. They won’t stick to the ground. We’ll be alright. Dinner will be over before the big snow arrives in town.”

As our family enjoyed delicious food at the restaurant, I kept my eyes on the window close by the table. Those “Scout Flakes” had returned and brought more friends with them. The parking lot lights gave a reflection of lightly dusted vehicles. Nothing major, and I was thankful.

Dinner was delicious, but, most of all, celebrating my sister’s birthday was very special.  Afterward,The family arrived to each home safely. Those “Scout Flakes” danced around and around the neighborhood until they came back with many more flakes. Today, we have about 6 inches of snow on the ground and the sky is still full of falling snowflakes.

A good day for resting, reading good books and snuggling under a blanket. Let those flakes play in the air. I am staying inside and enjoying the sights from the warmth of home.

Thank You Lord, for family, food, warm homes, birthdays, and always lots of giggles. Yes, and thank You Lord, even for the snowflakes.

Hope you are warm and enjoying the day,
Blessings and snowflakes,
Mimi

Lost mittens…..

mittens

January 1, 2017 and I have already lost something. Yes, I have lost a pair of mittens. Well, actually they are nice ladies gloves. I have several pairs of gloves. Some for casual wear and some more dressy times. I like to purchase gloves when they are on sale because, yes, there is always a need for gloves in the winter.

Yesterday, hubby and I made the usual trip to the grocery store, took down and put away  Christmas decorations and cleaned house. That was one day ago. Here I was thinking about how organized we are and feeling rather proud of our accomplishments.

Not so fast smarty pants!!! Where are my gloves? The soft and comfy ones that are always in the basket in the closet, ready for wear. They are nowhere to be found. A thorough investigation of the inside the house and the car have proven the gloves are really missing.

Now, why am I so concerned about this particular pair of gloves? Not that they are my best pair or that they were expensive. No, the problem is that I don’t like to lose things. I am a list maker and I didn’t feel the need to write where I left my gloves. So, the mystery remains a mystery.

Maybe those elusive gloves will reappear one day. That would be great!  But, if they never show up again, I will be okay. By telling myself to stop worrying and that I can’t control every little thing, the missing gloves are teaching me more than one lesson.

Lesson 1: Missing gloves are not the end of the world. I do have more gloves to wear.
Lesson 2: Stop trying to rush around and finish every little task in one day. Everything that isn’t completed today will still be here tomorrow.
Lesson 3: Always put the gloves back in the basket in the closet. That is why we put a basket in the closet. 🙂
Lesson 4: Remember God always finds ways to make me laugh and this is one of those times.

Have you ever lost something like gloves? Did you find them at a later time? God always has a message for us in each and every event in our lives, even with missing gloves. Are you listening for His message?

Happy New Year!
Blessings and giggles,
Mimi
